Structural abstraction: When an ant and an elephant are represented in a book by drawings or photos, they appear to be of a similar size. This metaphor will suggest that book knowledge - unless we take special measures - will distort the 'perspective' , the feeling of proportions, and of importance. The goal of structural abstraction is to remedy this, by providing an intuitive feeling of size and of scope (where on 'the mountain' one is at the moment), as in real life.
